The Ninja Turtles were a huge 80s comic book phenomenon. Director Steve Barron asked me to storyboard the movie and help to design the Turtles and make them work for the screen. We worked with Jim Henson’s Creature Workshop, in the days before the common use of cgi. The result was, I think, the best of the Turtle movies. The approach worked well and the film became an international box office smash.
Some of the designs shown here are from a later Turtles reboot that never got off the ground.
